This was part of the I Amsterdam City Card offer, so was 'free' to us. We just turned up, showed the cards at the entrance office, which was just outside the Central Station, and were soon on a boat. The boat was very busy but we had seats together (some later passengers/families didn't, but perhaps there is a booking option and this may be needed at peak season) and the audio guides worked for us giving an amount of interesting information. Not the most comfortable experience and it was difficult to take pictures, but then we were only onboard for an hour and we were glad we did it as a memorable experience.
We did the excellent light festival tour st 7pm. The boat captain was funny and knowledgeable, we enjoyed the art exhibits and the background story about each and one of them. Keep in mind the audio guide for the light festival tour is only in Dutch or English.
We did the 1 hour canal cruise and it was very interesting. The young Captain of the boat was a fantastic guy. very informative and also very funny. We sailed through different parts of the canal and listened to the pre-programmed information as well as the Captain giving us details. Well worth the money we paid. Would certainly recommend it as a way of seeing the city.
Very enjoyble experience, the captain of the cruise gave us a very funny and interesting description of the city, and the staff gave an excellent service.
It was a really good experience to see the city and know more about the history of Amsterdam. Really lovely. I went with my girlfriend and she also loved it. The only thing, the audio a lot of times was delayed. When the audio talked about anything interesting, sometimes we couldn’t see it yet. There should be more connection with the audio and the captain.
We were in Amsterdam for the final four days of our European trip. We stayed at a hotel near the airport and had quick and easy access to the train which took us to central Amsterdam. We also rented a car and visited Grosbeak the largest Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands. My grand children are in their late teens and they were very interested in hearing stories of Canada freeing the people of Holland and seeing the ages of some of the soldiers who lost their lives, many of whom were 18 to 20. The same ages as themselves. We took two boat tours. The first from near the Bahnhof and the other from near the Anne Frank home. The second tour was on a smaller boat and was far more informative than the first. The bigger boat of the first tour was to large to go into the smaller canals. Overall I totally enjoyed my time in Amsterdam. My first visit was 57 years ago and I have been back several times since, but a lot of my enjoyment came from sharing this experience with my grand children.
Evening Dinner Cruise 19/4 at 1900. This was a very nice and cosy trip. We chosed the fish menu, and the food was absolutely great. Captain was very entertaining, good stories from the real world, told with humor. Staff was kind and very service orientated - and made sure that everybody on board had a great time. We certainly had. Thanks. Value for the money: YES...!
We had a really lovely time on the one-hour canal cruise. Our captain was very lovely and cracked a good few jokes throughout the tour. The GPS guided tour via the headphones was a fab idea and there were so many language options available which was a really pleasant surprise. We learned so much about the history of the city and the tour even helped us to find places to visit again in further detail after the tour. The price was extremely reasonable considering the excellent experience we got, and our boat even left a little early which was nice. All in all, we would definitely recommend it!
We really enjoyed it. We show I I amsterdam cards at the ticket office ans were on a boat and on our way within 10 minutes. Our captain (Tony I believe was his name) was lovely ,cheerful and very knowledge of the area, he also had 2 traniees with him and they were also lovely. The facilties were clean. If I hadn't have had the I amsterdam card I would have still paid what the price was (which I think is reasonable).
1st time in Amsterdam and loved it Booked on the Lovers Canal cruise early in the morning to get a feel for the city and to get our bearings The tour showed the highlights of the city and the comentry was good
sitting backward is really annoying... Except that I think it is very nice and the captain was a nice guy, he was really funny, making jokes.
Booked through Get Your Guide literally 20 mins before boarding. They let us join a boat that was boarding as soon as we got there, which was great, no standing around as they weren’t so busy. We took a daytime trip and glad we did. Maybe evening cruises would be better in warmer months with open boats. The boat was modern, clean and warm and no condensation at all during any part of our cruise. The headphones were included and the audio commentary was interesting. The captain also added bits and pieces of extra info which was appreciated. It was a great introduction to the canals of Amsterdam as we decided to do this trip literally an hour after arriving in Amsterdam. It helped us with our bearings and with general historical info about the city. The reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is that we seemed to stay on one canal, no museums seen, no Anne Frank house, nothing like that, which was a shame as lots of tourists probably visit these places afterwards. Maybe the canal boat starting from the museums area take that route? We took the one from the station. There are lots of canal boat companies, but we were more than happy with Lovers as their boats appear a lot more modern than many others we saw. I would definitely recommend the cruise and my teenage daughter said it was one of the nicest things we did when in Amsterdam.
A amazing tour with some great canal boat skills performed and a great host. This tour is very much for couples and being alone I felt a little out of place.
Done the open boat tour during the summer. A great way to see the city and the audio guide gave plenty of information along the way. Extremely relaxing to the point I almost fell asleep half way around. Would definitely do the tour again if I’m back in Amsterdam
Booked this for our family of 6, age range 20's to mid 50's. Excellent welcome, all staff very friendly and helpful. Pizza's were very good and the drinks free flowing.Atmosphere was fantastic and the sights were pointed out and explained fully with a good dose of humour. Would recommend to anyone without hesitation.
Excellent, food was well prepared, attentive table service, funny captain. Highly recommended. Great value too.
Guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Although it rained, I still enjoyed the tour. The only complaint was the audio was difficult to hear at times.
We booked at the lovers office near the Anne Frank house at a cost of £16 each. Boarded easily, no queue, guide was knowledgable and friendly and the audio guide was helpful too.
Well worth £30, pizza was nice and the drinks were unlimited as advertised. The guide and driver of the boat Leon was excellent also. I’d recommend it on an evening just as it’s getting dark as everything is just starting to light up.
We had a lovely cruise around Amsterdam. The staff were very friendly. Drinks were unlimited and no problem getting anymore when needed, The pizza wasn't the best. But was well with the money for the unlimited drinks and views
Nice relaxing hour around the canals. Duco (sorry if I have not got the name correct) was informative with history and fun facts. Would recommend.
Our favourite part was the food, we were very pleased indeed, it was good quality considering we were in a canal boat
It was educational, slowed down at the right places. The pilot was polite and explained well- was fun and energetic.
Great staff, great views, lovely views. Would have been nice for more information on what we were looking at
The music was great. They were always around us keep our glasses filled with wine. You can also ask for soft drink
Great value for money. The staff were funny and engaging, very insightful about the city. You get a 1.5 hour cruise. Pizza was good, and unlimited drinks being refilled all the time. A great way to see the city and have some dinner.
Absolutely amazing…it was our friends birthday and they made it so memorable! Great music, great people…never laughed and sang so much! Oh and amazing cheese and wine :)
Amazing night! Lovely weather, beautiful wine and so yummy cheeses! Staff very friendly and attentive! CAPTAIN great sense of humour! Would definitely recommend for visitors, whether that be friends, couples! Musis on board fab, a great variety! Thanks for a lovely evening. One to remember for ever, especially for a friends birthday.
Absolutely excellent. Our skipper, Alex, was extremely good. The boat was piloted well and the microphone work was informative and very funny. The food was good and the service friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.
It was really wonderful, the crew, the boat, and the food. We enjoyed a great day with this event, I will try to repeat again
If you're looking for an evening dinner away from the busy and noisy restaurants, a relaxing cruise through the canals of Amsterdam is just what you're looking for. As for the dinner, the food was wonderful and the service was terrific. If you're looking for an abundance of on-board commentary about the many sights you'll be passing along the way, you'll be disappointed. Would be helpful to have more representatives from the Lovers Canal Cruise company available to make sure you are in the correct group, as there are a lot of tourists walking around wondering where to go.
Thoroughly enjoyable evening along Amsterdam’s famous canals, usually the best and easiest way to see much of the city. Staff were very friendly and efficient, the food was good although would have benefited from being served a little warmer as the soup was nearly cold. The food was of good quality though. Would definitely recommend and we will definitely look into doing it again the next time we visit the city. The city looked wonderful going from daylight into dusk during the time of the trip.
We did the wine and cheese evening cruise - it was a great way to see the city from the canals with a very informative and funny captain (Paul). A nice cheese and fig platter with dips, bread and nuts, also unlimited wine!
Tasty pizza and 4 Heinekens. Commentary wasn’t always the loudest, but a very pleasant 90 minutes. Staff were very friendly (we declined even more beer!)
this was a great trip, and a lovely way to see Amsterdam from a different angle (low down on the water!) The captain was very informative about what we were seeing, with lots of stories to tell. Given the miniscule size of the kitchen, the chef produced a great three course meal - we went for the salmon option which was lovely, but the guinea fowl also looked great. The waiting staff were attentive and kept us well supplied with wine throughout the evening. My only tip for the crew would be this - we were a table of 4 people, who were all drinking red wine, why not save your legs and just leave a bottle on the table and we could help ourselves? we were never waiting, it think it would just be one less table for you to worry about.
Our side of boat fogged up and we couldn’t see sights very well. Constantly had to wipe off windows. Food was Luke warm. Sink in Bathroom not working, therefore could not wash hands.
We both thoroughly enjoyed this dinner cruise. We sat up from in the boat where the captain was, so we had no problem hearing the information he was telling everyone. The cruise took a few hours and we went through many canals and saw a majority of the city. The food was really good as well, the soup was supposed to be cold, but the rest of the food, which was picked 2 times as we passed the cater,s place, was fresh and cooked perfectly. I would highly recommend this for a romantic night out on the water. We did arrive early and were given our choice of table, would recommend that if you don’t want to sit with other people.
A great experience, we all really enjoyed this boat tour. Lovely comfy boat, well organised allocation of tables, friendly and efficient staff, nice views of Amsterdam by night, with Heineken and pizza- what's not to like 😊 highly recommend the pizza cruise!
Was a relaxed, chill evening. Plenty of food and wine! A great way to view all the historic building and lights of the canal.

LOVERS Canal Cruises in Amsterdam
Amsterdam and canal cruises go together like summer and sunshine. When you visit the city, exploring the canals by boat is a must do for any visitor. As one of the oldest canal cruise companies in the city, LOVERS Canal Cruises is one of the best in the business.
Originally we were a small family business, which gave the company its name. We don’t mind that some pronounce our name wrong (it’s pronounced like ‘loafers’), but are happy to bring more love into the world. Today we are a professional business, with the biggest fleet in the city.
Where is LOVERS Canal Cruises Amsterdam?
We have multiple departure locations in the city. Our main dock is right be Amsterdam Central Station, just look for the bright orange boats. All our departure locations are:
- Amsterdam Central Station, nice and centrally located
- Anne Frank House, right next to the museum on the Prinsengracht
- Rijksmuseum, a quick walk from the national museum of the Netherlands
- Leidsekade, right in the heart of the nightlife district of Amsterdam
What type of canal cruises can you go on in Amsterdam?
There are lots of different types of boat tours you can enjoy in the city. The best known are the big boats, which fit up to 90 guests and typically offer tours that last around 1 hour. But there are plenty of other types of canal cruises.
For instance, there are different types of dinner cruises. From full 4-course dinners to the more casual pizza cruises. And from wine and cheese tastings to the child friendly pancake cruises.
And then there are the special occasion boat tours during events in the city. Such as the Amsterdam Light Festival, which brings brightness to the dark and short winter days. But also for events such as SAIL Amsterdam, which only happens every 5 years.
