Every 5 years, Amsterdam welcomes an armada of monumental sailing ships during SAIL Amsterdam. It is the most popular event in the Netherlands for locals, with millions of visitors. If you are planning to visit Amsterdam in the summer of 2025, you don’t want to miss this spectacular event!
When is SAIL Amsterdam 2025
From 20 to 24 August 2025, the IJ river and its shores will be the place to be. It will be a triple jubilee, so while many events and details are yet unknown, you can be assured that it will be an extraordinary celebration. It will be the 10th edition of SAIL Amsterdam, on the occasion of the city’s 750th birthday and SAIL’s 50th birthday.
What is SAIL Amsterdam?
SAIL Amsterdam is a 5-day maritime celebration with all kinds of events aboard the ships and on the banks of the river. It all starts with the SAIL-in on the first day of the festivities. This is when hundreds of ships, including many historical tall ships, make their way up the North Sea Canal from the North Sea to Amsterdam.
Over the next days, there will be numerous cultural and festive activities in the different areas or Oceans of SAIL. Each evening will conclude with a spectacular show. Some of the possible activities: go speed dating or get married on a Tall Ship, play games and sports on the water, but the best way to enjoy SAIL is from the water.
During the last edition in 2015, over 800 ships were part of the event that was visited by more than 2.3 million people. Sadly the 2020 edition had to be cancelled due to the global pandemic. But that just means that the 10th edition will be even bigger and better.
What will LOVERS Canal Cruises offer for SAIL 2025?
LOVERS Canal Cruises is an official partner of SAIL Amsterdam. Though we can’t say too much yet, we do know that we will be offering a special event cruise. With departures from our main dock and closed glass-roofed boats, you can be assured of a great experience whether the summer sun shines or hides behind rain clouds.
A cruise is the best way to experience SAIL as the boat makes it way between many of the incredible ships that visit the city. You’ll see Tall Ships, heritage ships, Royal Navy ships and many others from up close. With the event over a year away, we cannot reveal all yet but can’t wait to get started.
